The Various Types of Vein Treatments

Veins are responsible for carrying deoxygenated blood to the lungs and heart. When they become large, thick or twisted they are referred to as spider or varicose veins. These veins appear on the legs most of the time, but can form on any part of the body. To treat these venous diseases, patients should seek the help of vein specialists. There are several vein treatment options available today when you click here.

The most common vein treatment is schlerotherapy. In this treatment, a special salt solution is injected into the affected blood vessels to make them swell and seal shut. This prevents blood from flowing into the vein. With time, the vein becomes a scar tissue and disappears.

Sometimes the patient needs to undergo schlerotherapy treatment more than once if there vein damage is severe. This process doesn't need anesthesia; therefore, it can be done in the physician's office so go here.

Laser surgery is relatively a new method of treating varicose veins. Strong beams of light are released into the vein to make the blood vessel fade away. Since lasers are accurate and direct, they can effectively help get rid of varicose veins once and for all. Patients, however, may experience painful heat sensations during the procedure. This can be reduced by cooling the vein.

Another effective treatment option for patients suffering from venous diseases is endovenous treatment. This technique utilizes laser technology and radiofrequency. A small catheter is inserted into the affected vein. Laser energy is then sent through the catheter to shrink the vein wall. The blood flow diverts from the problematic vein to the surrounding, healthy blood vessels. After a few weeks the spider veins disappear.

Large varicose veins can be treated using surgery. Vein specialists use surgical stripping and ligation to tie up and remove varicose veins from the leg. This vein treatment technique is used mainly for veins that collect blood from the skin. During surgery, general or local anesthesia is applied. Also, unlike schlerotherapy, it should be carried out in an operating room.

Other types of surgical procedures used to treat venous diseases include ambulatory phlebectomy and endoscopic vein treatment. Ambulatory phlebectomy involves making tiny cuts on the skin surface and removing problem veins using surgical hooks. This method is ideal for large varicose veins. The tiny cuts leave small scars.

In endoscopic vein surgery, small cuts are made on the skin. A small camera is inserted through the cuts to help the vein specialist see inside veins. Anesthesia is used during this process.
